Trabectome® Glaucoma Surgery
Trabectome is an FDA-cleared surgical medical device for the treatment of glaucoma. Over 6 years of clinical acceptance by leading glaucoma specialists* has shown it to be a safe and effective alternative to traditional therapies.
In a procedure as simple as cataract extraction, the unique design of the needle sized Trabectome probe, precisely removes the glaucoma causing obstructive angle tissue barrier by using a highly focused electro-surgical pulse. No artificial implants are left behind or permanent holes made in the eye to drain the excess aqueous fluid. Instead, the procedure allows the eye’s own natural physiologic outflow system to reestablish itself and the intraocular pressure is rebalanced safely avoiding typical post-surgery complications such as blebitis or hypotony. This minimally invasive nature makes Trabectome a highly convenient and relatively pain free outpatient procedure and is normally followed by a very short recovery time for the patient.
Trabectome maybe suitable for glaucoma patients who:
- Are undergoing a cataract extraction
- Have failed or need an alternative to laser surgeries
- Requires a less invasive surgery then Trabeculectomy or implants
- Are on maximal or allergic to certain medications
